Trying not to read too much for fear of spoiling but this GOTG hatin really has me scratching my head. Those movies are fantastic. Marvel movies taking a turn for the worse - what are you guys smoking?

im kind of getting worried about the direction of the MCU, I cant remember the last marvel movie I really enjoyed, GOTG2 and Spiderman homecoming were both very underwhelming

Agreed. That said, I can see why comic fans are getting upset. I just don't see the shift in direction as a bad thing.

Yup. & judging from the last issue of Thor (#700), Jane Foster has been set up to be Thor for good now in the comics. Oh, & while we're chiming in on GOG2, I too thought it blew.

I gave GotG2 a 6/10 and think that was generous. I still haven’t watched it a second time. It’s right up there with Iron Man 3 for me as the worst Marvel film in their catalog so far. I may even go as far as to say it is the worst.

The thing I’m finding irritating about the Marvel films as of late is they either follow an interchangeable narrative template or overemphasize the comedy. It’s the main reason I’m more excited about DC now because they’re at least trying to take the material seriously. Something Marvel seems to have all but adandoned now.
I'm curious to see if you feel the same way upon a second viewing. I was a little disappointed with the added emphasis on comedy the first time I saw GotG 2 as well. I felt a few moments were robbed of their dramatic impact when they were abruptly interrupted with a gag. However, those missteps didn't seem nearly as bad when I watched the film a second time and I was able to enjoy it a lot more.

Not so sure about Jane going forward, Jerry. Thor #700 is titled The Death of Thor Part I, with the lenticular cover having Jane lying in Death’s arms as a tribute to The Death of Captain Marvel graphic novel.

I rate Thor 1 as the best Marvel movie. I loved the Shakespearean tragedy feel the film had, and the family dynamics in that film. Not to mention the acting in that film between the Odinson family is some of the best in the MCU, and when you combine that with Patrick Doyles soundtrack, which still hasn't been beaten for an MCU film, you have the an amazing film. You even had the subtle 'fish out of water' scenes of humour which to this day, still hold up.

Thor - 'I need a horse!'
Petshop - 'We don't have horses. We have Dogs, Cats, Birds...'
Thor 'Give me one of those large enough to ride'

Seriously, it baffles me as to why this film wasn't well received, and still isn't. It's because of the simple hurr durr plebians we have in today's world, that we got this GotG copy and paste threequel.

+1 i can't agree more. I don't understand all the GotG hate too. Both films were awesome.

I see how folks would love those movies. I thought the first GOTG was "good". Second one was overkill on the slapstick. I like laughing in movies, I just want a superhero flick to have an authentic sense of danger and doom. That chick with the big boobs saying "meow meow" in Thor 1 & 2 really kills any sense of that. If they want goofy comedy in Marvel movies, that's fine, I say just keep it in GOTG. I'm not giving up on Marvel movies (just yet), I still have the Cap movies, one of the very best trilogies of all-time imo, first Iron Man movie and Doctor Strange to keep me going.
