Heavy Future: The Wolverine finds the balance of berserk and heart

The Wolverine was good and surprisingly so grounded with its approach to the story and characters for a major portion of the film. Though it's not exactly an faithful adaptation, the movie gives nods to the 1982 Wolverine comic by Chris Claremont and Frank Miller, while borrowing certain elements from it and expands on them.

This is Hugh Jackman's 6th time (5 movies and a cameo) portraying the character of Logan and he still brings something fresh to the character along with his badass charm to it. Both Mariko and Yukio played by Tao Okamoto and Rila Fukushima were good supporting characters, especially with Mariko I was secretly hoping they would go with the comic ending panel.

The story is pretty straightforward but still manages to bring in some intrigue and moments of suspense in midst of the action. For most parts at least until the end, director James Mangold made sure that it doesn't feel like the action is driving the story, thus the action played out quite organic to the story.

The Wolverine is a solid and worthy entry into the X-Men saga and the mid credits scene just builds up the excitement for the next chapter.

I give it an 8/10. It's a well made film, no doubt. If it had come out before the first X-men film it would have made a bigger impression on me. Instead I found myself enjoying it but somewhat impatiently waiting for Days of Future Past in the back of my mind.

The film had an important purpose beyond telling this story, and that was to help soften the blow of X3 and Origins. It did that. I can now watch X3 knowing that I can then watch this and watch Logan deal with the silliness that went on in that film in a non-silly way.

This was the Wolveirne film that we should have seen instead of Origins. It effectively redeemed Jackman as Wolverine preparing us for the re-emerging of the X-men together again in Days of Future Past.

The movie felt kind of like Captain America and Thor did when I first watched them the year before Avengers was to be released. It felt as though it was important to watch, but that it was simply a precursor for an incredible film that I have to wait a year to see. Essentially, The Wolverine is as good as Captain America and Thor which makes it worth watching.

I can't wait for Days of Future Past!

I liked the first 30 minutes but then it really went downhill. I give it a 6/10.

I liked the last Wolverine movie a lot more. It flowed better and had a MUCH better score and cast. Yes, it had some bad FX but overall I was just into it a lot more than this one.

I liked it. Rate it a 7/10. At times i felt like Bruce Lee should have popped up as it was mostly a ninja martial arts movie. There was a lot of character building. Not sure i care for how they handled the silver samurai. Hugh Jackman was Wolverine imo.
