just calm down, have a seat, take a few deep breaths. Now try saying this, "I don't need to buy that statue." repeat...

thats exactly what I do...I say:

"I don't need to buy that premium format statue, I need to buy that 1:1 bust instead."

Am I doing it right?

This is not to knock any other statue companies products, as they (mainly Bowen) put out some pretty impressive stuff (Action Thor, Juggernaut, Cable, etc.). But I just cannot see myself paying damn near $300 for a smaller size statue.

To keep my money from leaving me too fast, I had to make a decision as to one company, and also had to limit what line of license to invest in (Marvel, DC, World of Warcraft, and Mortal Kombat collectibles). Now I can save money!
Wow exactly how I feel. I spend more but that's it for that character. Otherwise I will buy 2 to3 versions from Bowen in different poses down the road. I rather have the ultimate version too. Not saying the others are bad at all. They are all just as good just my own personal preference.

Like many other hobbyists, my collection was once filled with Bowen product, and proudly so. However, for generally the reasons you mentioned, once I started buying SS product, my Bowen buying days were cut drastically, and rather quickly too. For me, it was like going from VHS quality to Bluray. Truth be told though, I do still buy the occasional BD piece, e.g. the action Thor, the Dormmammu bust. However, I have been slowing selling off my BD collection for years.

This is just an opinion. Obviously, people love their BD product as much as ever.

I have never even bought a Bowen statue or a koto statue. When I started I went straight to sideshow. Now I collect sideshow, PCS, Gaming Heads, and First 4 Figures.

A lot of the time I see as only being big - but not enough bang - yes the size is larger - but usually that's where the perks stop.

yep had bowen and palisades a couple gentle giant and diamond select that was the main stuff that was out, the first few pfs from SS did not impress me and I wasn't much into the LOTR line but I did have a couple Muppet busts they were great but SS was still relatively small so I didn't think twice then the Darth Maul 1:1 bust came out and I WANTED IT that got me hooked, sold most of my stuff kept the G I joe palisades stuff and upgraded to busts and PFs even though I had small space at the time. I will still buy from other companies from time to time, I am trying to stay away from the small stuff cuz it gets overshadowed by the other SS and larger pieces I have and I want to buy Bowen once in awhile but I see in hand shots and they are just ok and to me not worth the cost for the size.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

lets put it this way, sideshow has the POTENTIAL to create amazing statues - some top of my head: conan prize, sc2 marine, barbarian, optimus prime, snake eye + timber etc...

but it doesnt mean all their stuff are great, a lot are not.

bowen/koto on the other hand, will never wow you, it will always just be borderline between collectable & toys.

attakus is the company that makes the most consistent & highest quality mass produced statues in the industry, unfortunately those guys do not know how to communicate nor market their products, just look at their website with those stamp photos, and their boxes like the ones you get buying a typewriter in the 1980s... But their statues are always top notch beyond anything else, it's a shame/lucky the prices are so low on most of them in the after market. Also all of them are made in france by their own artists, not some chinese migrant worker off the street.
