Kotobukiya Colossus Repaint
Hey guys,
Here's my latest repaint, the Kotobukiya Colossus statue sculpted by Erick.
This one really gave me a hard time. As I'm sure you all know, chroming is a very tedious and demanding process and it's an even bigger headache when you have to mask off the chrome and paint a costume in matte colors ^^
I used spazstix for this Colossus and I have to say I like it a lot better than Alclad. Looks better imo and it's definitely more durable.
So yeah this guy took quite a bit of time and effort but I think it was worth it.
Chrome effect,perfection !
I love too the airbrush yellow-orange on his torso &abdominals !
Do you apply a black glossy undercoat before spraying the Spaz Stix?
Do you used a glossy varnish at the end ?
Thanks!

Merci beaucoup! Je vais répondre en anglais pour pas violer les règles du forum
Yes, I always start my chroming process by painting a gloss black undercoat, which I then gloss varnish several times. To the point that it looks wet and as reflective as chrome. I polish it one last time and then onto spaz stix.
I'm not a huge fan of "real" automotive chrome as I just find it too reflective and it washes out all the details of the sculpt. What I do is I spray 3-4 very thin coats to make the chrome sturdier and lastly I paint some shadows with a very diluted gloss black (tamiya smoke works too)
