Next thing...Paypal will place charges on gifts. Most people escape paypal charges by sending money as a gift so they don't get hit with the charge. Paypal will eventually get wise and take a cut. It's not if, it's when.
It's only a matter of time.
They are already doing that. I've sent money to artists as a gift and they charged me the fee.

The final value fee being applied on shipping charges had been rumored for sometime and is unfortunate it went into effect.

I like and enjoy EBAY however I have strong hopes that one day soon EBAY has to compete with other auctioning internet rivals that are just as good or better.

A monopoly is never truly a good thing especially in this kind of business.

Until a better alternative presents itself, this is the best deal in town.
So true, I tried to offer pieces on forums, and sales come in, but not as much exposure as ebay, I hate paypal too.

I actually thought it had been in effect for awhile now. As has been mentioned, it is unfortunately the only game in town. I wish there was another option but right now, there is nothing. I charge what it would cost to walk up the the USPS and ship a package but I really just print the label at home and save some money and pretty much just break even on the shipping charge.

Charging fees on shipping was a long time coming. It sucks but its a direct result of sellers abusing the system. I agree though that at the moment there is no better option than eBay when unloading collectibles. So for now we're stuck.

Speaking of shipping and eBay I personally think they need to do away with the "Shipping and handling charges" feedback rating for sellers who list EXACTLY what they're charging for S&H in the listing. Buyers who leave low feedback scores in this category really piss me off. I swear everyone expects free shipping nowadays and eBay rewards those who offer it by not allowing buyers to rate it. Shipping is expensive and with the cost listed up front in the auction I don't think the buyer should have the power to punish the seller with a low rating when they agreed to pay it by committing to the purchase. I know a lot of sellers just jack up the item price and offer free shipping but I don't agree with that practice myself.

Completely agree.

It's the same thing. Unless you can explain to me a difference between a $45 item w/ $20 shipping and a $65 item w/ free shipping. The Buyer pays the same amount either way and the Seller pays virtually the same to ebay in fees.
