Question: Marvel Omnibus Vs the Epic Collection
I have been waiting/hoping for a looong time that Marvel will make Excalibur & X-Factor omnibus'. But last month, in their Marvel Previews, they solicited Epic Collections of both of these titles. What are your feelings towards EC & would you rather collect them vs omnibus'?

I believe:
Omnibus > Marvel Masterworks > Essential
no competition.

Yes, but it's a question of availability. Would you rather wait until there is an Omnibus of a title you want - which might never happen - while there is an existing EC already available?
And I highly doubt we will ever see a Marvel Masterwork of Excalibur!

Are you referring to the color "Epic Collections" - the more recent reprint format? If so, I prefer those to the Omnibuses, based on the fact that they are standard trade dimensions and can be stored easily in longboxes.
Essentials are the black and white newsprint editions that were apparently phased out in favor of the Epics. I think most series have a better chance of being reprinted in the Epic format, over an Omnibus.

Omnibi are great but often difficult to read because of the size... If the omnibi is under 20 issues, I love it. However, when they reprint over 20 issues, the books is way too heavy to hold and the binding often fails... JMO

I don't buy soft covers (except Nightwing... cause there is no way on earth DC make a HC edition of Nightwing for some reason...It had even two places in the top 10 best selling comics at the begining of the rebirth... damn you DC what more do you want !!!! lol make nightwing HC... :/)
I like Omnibuses they are actually what's epic with every tie in and whatnot of an event or an entire run in one trade or two trades etc... and they are oversized hard covers and thicker the better in my book. lol
Oversized Hard Cover... these are the magical words that floats my boat
Only Omnibus that i wait for is The Inhumans Omnibus since i'm lately in to Inhumans cause of Kamala and i wait for a HC edition or OHC edition of Karnak, Mosaic and Moon Girl&DD. If it doesn't happen for them, i will probably get the soft covers. I don't care about Excalibur unfortunatly so no problem... I don't buy Marvel Masterworks too btw.
My love for Omnibus is like a truck berserker !!!

In my opinion nothing will beat an omnibus and I will be more than happy to wait for one. The bigger the better. Yes they take me literally months to read but because of that I feel like I am getting my money's worth out of the purchase and each new book is a commitment to a new adventure. They also look excellent on display in a shelf. Like the libraries of old... just in comic form.

I bought the Epic Spidy Clone Saga and Epic Ben Reily saga.
A total of 11 TPBs wich will all get the Omnibus treatment!
Had I known this I would not have bought the Epics.
Omnibus is superior to other HCs and TPBs.
I hesitate to buy Epics and other TPBs, because what if an Omnibus will come out.
If you can get the TPBs for a price that don't make an issue later on to upgrade to Omnibus, just buy them.
Otherwise I would wait.
I know I will lose money on the Clone Saga TPBs. I can't even sell them. the TPBs are not that popular in Denmark.
