I don't know if I'd call it an Ultimate Cut as much as an Extended Cut. Ayer is sticking with the claim that the theatrical release is "his cut" of the film unlike Snyder on BvS who labeled the Ultimate Cut as his preferred vision. Whether one believes Ayer's claim or not will likely depend on where you stand on the whole studio interference debate on this production. Not to mention I'm sure WB/DC are trying not to make it appear as if they're always going to release a different version of the film every time it hits home video.
Regardless I'm glad we're getting more. The trailer clearly shows the scene where Harley chases down Joker which eventually leads to the scene where he backhands her. I for one am hoping they include more of their abusive relationship and more Joker in general as that was the high point of the film for me.

More likely, 'everyone' want to see this happening.
Like Hellboy mentioned, Ayer still claims that the Theatrical cut is 'his' cut.
Anyways I prefer and would like to see 'the real cut' of any movie at the Theatre.

I just watched the extended version tonight.... It was ok.... I think the lack of humor, no R rated violence, weak fight scenes and a boring overall story just made the movie so so at best... I also thought the villains were sub-par..... and I hated the ending...
So far the only DC movie in this new universe I liked a lot was Man of Steel but Nolan had written like 3/4 of it before Snyder took over, so that's probably why... BvS had a rather weak story and so did Suicide Squad. Snyder needs to go and WB needs to pick better directors and writers for their superhero movies... All Snyder is good at is action scenes, he's horrible at story... and the guy has no sense of humor....
Suicide Squad was screaming for some dark humor but It had none, even Harley's lines were rather weak. I'd give 6/10... I think that one trailer (Bohemian Rhapsody) was actually better then the movie...

What do you consider 'the real cut' because there is no such thing? In general there is the editors cut which is the first cut that takes all the footage and cuts it down to a cohesive story which can be a very long cut. Then there's the director's cut where the director and editor tirm the movie, select preferred shots, trim for pacing, etc. The director's cut is shown to the studio and with studio notes, a final cut is made. Reshoots can be done based notes from any of the cuts.
I think Ayers is just being professional in his statement taking ownship of the final cut. I believe he stated that the final cut was a mix of his cut and the other cut, so he's taken ownership of the final compromise. If it is true the studio hired the trailer company to make there own cut, that is highly unusual. Director's cut are not necessarily the best product. And all of the Marvel movies involve studio involvement as executive producer Kevin Feige watches evey movie and involves himself in each production to provide notes to the directors.
BvS Ultimate cut was still a mess. I think all the Jenna Malone stuff should have still been left out as it added nothing. And all the Batman nightmares should have neen cut out, including the cool future one, as it kills the pacing of the movie. I am curious what Ayers cut of SS would have looked like. I was impressed with his Fury. So I was confused at the jumbled hot mess of SS.

I meant for the 'cut' that is released in BluRay/DVD.
Despite being good, bad or just o.k. movies I feel cheated in these last two DCEU movies.
I'm aware of the helpful info you provide about the different stages of edition and that is not a very uncommon thing but in this case I don't think we'd get this 'extended edition' if there wasn't made public the leak of a third party involved in the edition of the movie and also the fact that Leto got upset for all they cut of his work/scenes.

I thought the movie was trash in general but I am very keen to see if the extended cut changes my mind or even convinves me to give Leto another chance , at this moment though I never want to see him in another DC movie.

So I missed this one when it was in the theatre and I hate the idea of paying $25 for a digital copy of the film early (instead of just waiting for the physical release in December).
Would everyone say this is a 'rent before you buy' type of movie or a 'buy, but not at full price'?
I know at least here in Canada (everywhere??), we can't rent it via iTunes until its physical release in Dec. right now the digital copy is $25 to buy early and I just can't do it (have a mental barrier paying the same for a digital item as I'd pay for a physical one)

Personally I wouldn't pay $25 for a digital copy of anything. Wait another month and buy a physical copy for under $20 or just rent it.
