Question Can you sculpt onto a cast?

If it were necessary to make amendments to a sculpt after a mock-up paintmaster is it possible to resculpt onto a cast or should the original have survived the casting process?

It can be done either with the orginal sculpt, or with a resin casting. Depending on how complex the changes are would determine which route to take, and even then it's basically a judgement call for whomever is tweaking the work.

The original sculpture's life, post-molding depends on what the original sculpt was created from as well as which prcoess of mold making is used, and how much care the mold maker takes when de-molding the piece.

Wax sculpts can get busted up pretty bad, but sculpey sculpts hold up better. And even then, it depends on if the sculptor baked the sculpey long enough to get the piece properly hardened.

Hope that helps

Cheers William so the choice of materials is critical. Yet you can get more detail into a wax sculpt or is this incorrect?

Wax is unbeatable for fine detail work, IMO.

It depends on the mold. After the molding process, what the original sculpt was made from makes no difference. If silicone molds are made, you can easily get 40 to 80 castings from them. Again, depends on the mold at that point, not the original.

William Paquet??? Do you happen to be the same William Paquet who sculpted the Star Wars figures for Polydata? If so, I just wanted to say I am a great admirer of your work. If only Kotobukiya would contract you to do their head sculpts, would I then buy one of their statues that wasn't wearing a helmet!

That's me, and man that's going back a long time. I think I did those sculpts about ten plus years ago.

Thanks for compliment!!
