He (and the rest of the Cabal) escaped to the Ultimate Universe Earth which was also colliding with that earth.

The incursions story had to last this long so the big Secret Wars finale could compete directly with DC's Convergence titles, hah.

I don't feel that the current "Time Runs Out" story is running on too long, but the two books were definitely dragging last year leading up to it. I'm glad Hickman did that eight-month time jump instead of continuing along at the same pace.
