I don't know if I could say it's a smart move or not...

this strategy definitely works in the US, because people here are just so damm rich. a hundred bucks are nothing to American. Even students can make this money in a day or two. they don't have to limit their budget and only buy a cheaper PS3 with less stuff in the bundle (HDMI cable, hard drive ...)

but on the opposite,
Asia area are not as rich as the US
probably Japan is the only country who can easily afford a PS3.
In most of the other places, students might have to work for 5~7 days just for this hundred bucks. Plus, the concept of HDMI isn't quite common yet, only the hardcore tech players know about it, and top level equipments is also rare and unaffordable.
so, to them, the 20G might be a better choice, instead buying some extra stuff they are not going to use for at least the coming five years.

That's not quite true. American's don't tend to be richer than everyone else. We just use our credit and credit cards rather poorly.

besides who wants the watered down version? if I wanted a PS3, I'd go for the topped out version of it

Still doesnt matter, wont be buying a PS3 for $600. Only way i would buy it for that much, is if Capcom came out with Street fighter 4 for P3 only. They really need to drop the price of the damn thing, which i am sure they will down the line.

Rider..I wish you were right..I'm not sure where you get that impression, but believe me..being broke is a worldwide problem. We have alot of good things in the US, but you make it sound like everyone here has $600 to flush down the toilet. The PS3 hasn't done very well here and it's because it's so damn expensive.

this news probably upset you really bad

as far as I know
CAPCOM is not going tp make FTG type of games anymore ...
mostly due to the extremely bad sells, doesn't matter which title.
For some reasons...
Japanese these day consider RPG to be the only type of games that is worth to buy...

I saw this on a japanese forum. Don't know how true it could be...

But, if it is true, it's really sad that people these days don't get into FTG games like we used to. SFIII , KOF96' ~ KOF98' , Dark Stalkers , Samuri Spirit ... they were all great games
