Kingdom Come for me hands down. The art is so beautiful and well done you would know what is going on without the conversation balloons.

Batman honorable mentions be "Killing Joke", "Long Halloween", "Court of Owls" and "Hush".
For me, of those listed go with "Kingdom Come".

Best story is very specific. What first came to my mind was the five-issue Legion of Super-Heroes "The Great Darkness Saga" by Paul Levitz and Keith Giffen, but I really need to think about this.
