Speaking as an artist rep, myself, let me say that I don't mind a little price haggling at all. To me, it's simply part of the process. I'm always happy to hear a potential buyer out and try to work out a price that they, the artist, and I can all be happy with.

Also, I'm not offended at "lowball offers." Granted, I probably won't be accepting them, but not everyone who is a part of this hobby is well-versed in the values of art and artists, so I always keep that in mind if I get one. Getting offended at that, to me, seems really pointless anyhow.

My advice is to make your offer and see what happens. It's no sure-fire bet you'll get the piece at the price YOU want, but you might be surprised at how much of a deal you might get, if you didn't begin the process.

My go-to is 20% off. More may be insulting, but 40% is not unheard either.

I could see the demand for Granov art working against you in regards to getting a discount. High demand usually means there is someone out there willing to pay full asking price.

Art collecting is not like any other hobby. Each piece is unique. Its natural to want the best deal you can get, but I will say that I overpaid for my best pieces.

For Granov art, I don't see any harm in at least asking, but his fresh new stuff will rarely get marked down. They might be more negotiable after a year or if you buy 3 covers. One artist told me, "I'm asking $3k but I might say yes if you threw $2500 in my face". Make an offer. If they refuse, then buy or walk away. If you want it bad, $3k is not unreasonable for a Granov cover. I own two myself.
