PSP Question

I just bought my kid a game for his PSP, and it doesn't work. Says I have to upgrade my system. What the? Any of you guys know of a place I can find out what this is all about? I know you can download stuff to it, but I don't have a cable, etc. What all do I need? Thanks.

funny you should ask....i just did this yesterday. Son bought the Marvel Universe (or close) game......had to upgrade via wireless. no cables needed, usb or otherwise (see, otherwise, then it's not wireless... )

biggest showstopper...was when you set up config under "network settings" it asks all the questions....i made it easy (unsecured WLAN, automatic IP, DNS, etc. via DHCP)..basically entered the SSID and that was it.

BUT..........!!!!

You have to go to totally OTHER menu.......system settings, as I recall, and change default for wireless from "adhoc" (for psp-to-psp) to "infrastructure" mode...then it works!

Error you get if you don't do this step is nebulous........and you'll never find it out quickly.

should work fine then...and the game works now too!

Make sure you have your ac adapter with you when you upgrade... also the update should be on the game you bought.

Thanks for the help, guys. As soon as I get home tonight I'll try to upgrade. The game is that Burnout, I think. The one where you race around and try to make crashes.

some games will not ship w/the update (like Marvel U. game). True too, about the AC power....not a time to depend on the batteries. Update will only take about 2-3 minutes to download (leave memstick in..it'll store updte to it, about 17mb needed...) and then PSP will reset...and then u can delete update on memstick, no longer needed there.

happy endings!

Just one thing .. when you update it you can't run homebrew softwares like old video game emulators (SNES, Genesis, etc). those softwares only run on 1.5 versions.
