Thanks Vallos! I can see how displaying the piece at a slightly different angle can minimize the appearance of the pin.

I was thinking of possibly modifying the staff slightly by adding a taller pin and filling the gap of the original pin or possibly finding a way of modifying the base in a non-permanent way so that the staff will touch while being fully inserted.

For now, I'll keep it as it is since I would hate to inadvertently cause more of an issue than is there. The reality is that the piece is quite beautiful as it is.

That was my mindset in that I did not want to fuss with it too much, risky damage I was not able to recover from. The cane was stable so I just left it be.
