A Rant on Mixed Media

I have always loved mixed media but I have to vent and rant a bit. Sideshow if you implement mixed media in the future could you please take into consideration how long the material lasts? Pleather type material is just not meant to be put on statues which are purchased to display for decades if not a lifetime. Or just use full sculpts instead of using this ----ty material.

Case in point...

1. Batman PF and his flaking undies. Material flakes off when I touch it. I purchased this statue in 2016....so it hasn't even lasted for 3 years. I also have an original first run from 2013 that is flaking even worse (I bought the second because the first was damaged during an earthquake). Please stop using pleather if you source the cheapest venders. I did some research and apparently pleather lasts longer than leather as long as they are made properly. If you use improperly made pleather they flake and deteriorate quickly. Or just stick with sculpts if you can't guarantee it will last.

2. Rogue PF jacket (I'm sure my Cyclops PF jacket is also cracking away in the box). Poor material that cracks and flakes. Is the new Rogue maquette going to be made of the same material? It's going to be worse for the maquette because it won't even be removable so if it starts cracking you can't even replace it.

That stinks. I have had my Anakin PF for 11 years and it's like new. Must have used cheap material. I had to make a new Superman belt.

yep that is always my concern with fabric type items.. people say its climate, humidity, etc. but man, it sucks to buy a collectible you plan to keep and display for a long time, but then they barely last 3 years.

Sorry to see that brother. I’m afraid your complaints will fall on deaf SS ears though.

Does Anakin have any pleather parts? I find that cloth material is fine. It's the pleather material that I have problems with. So frustrating.

There is zero chance they will offer me a replacement...I know that. Just want to raise some awareness to hopefully ban this material all together. Or go fully sculpted if they can't guarantee that a material will last.

Do you mind me asking where you live? I live in Taiwan which is very very humid. Either it's the climate doing the damage or they really picked better quality material back in the day (real leather used?).

Should be an interesting topic to research.

I remember this from the Indiana Jones PF thread. This was from a collector in Indianapolis. Can you imagine seeing your Rogue Maquette like this......

Yea, that sucks!

That's why I prefer fully sculpted if possible.
