DC Comics Crimes of Passion (2020)

This is 2020's Valentines' Day special. Unlike some previous Valentines' Day specials, this one has some pretty serious stories.

The Batman story is about an early relationship he had with someone named Linda Page. Page is a wealthy socialite who helps the elderly. She guesses that Batman has to be wealthy, too, in order to afford his costumes, gadgets, vehicles, etc. She doesn't approve of his vigilantism, though, which creates problems for her and Bruce.

Green Arrow and Black Canary help a bullied high school kid.

Plastic Man helps an old flame escape the clutches of a gangster.

Maggie Sawyer finally learns about the deal that Batwoman made with Sawyer's ex-husband. Sawyer and Kate Kane find some closure in their relationship.

Catwoman plays "marriage counselor" to a bickering Russian mob couple.

The story featuring The Question is philosophical in nature as he follows a masked man attacking a mob family. This one has some surprising twists.

Actor Jay Baruchel (yes, that guy) wrote the Nightwing & Batgirl story. It's set before the current nonsense with Dick losing his memories and Batgirl getting a costume change.

For Hunter Frost:

Linda Page was a Golden Age girlfriend of Bruce Wayne. I do not know how many years she was around in the Batman comics but I am pretty sure she was post Julie Madison but pre Vicki Vale

The story in this issue is very good (and rather sad).

I saw it today at my LCS .... & was tempted. But passed. I can go back, but is it worth the 10 beans?

Honestly, it depends on two things:

1) if Gotham-based characters are your favorite
2) if you're into hard boiled pulp fiction and film noir

As I wrote in the first post, the stories take Valentines' Day seriously, despite the funny cover.

All of the above.

Are there any comic shows in your area? I know there’s a big one usually every 1st Sunday of the month where I am. Often the larger dealers will have recent back issues for less than cover price. A great way to pick up the pricier issues like this. Last weekend I saw Incoming for a few bucks as opposed to the $10 cover price.
