If the piece is good, your good. If you want to resell, you could have issues. If you want to go to Sideshow for help, you'd be shnit out of luck.

Might also have said "Marvel Sample". Sideshow does create unnumbered sample statues. Type "Sideshow Sample" into an ebay search and you will see a fair number of them for sale.

Doesn't SS write most of their edition sizes by hand? it could be just bad ink that faded off over time.. wouldn't surprise me..
