I never once would place an arrow on the right when shooting, it always just felt wrong. But as Loric said if you're as good as Hawkeye then it probably wouldn't matter. That said it looks odd to me (knowing how I shoot) seeing the arrow that side and in particular the grip he's using (I'd always have the arrow sitting ontop of the rest the same side as the knuckles, not in between the fingers, that way you can see it better, assuming you're drawing with your right hand).

Artistic license at the end of the day.

..and yeah that pic is pretty much what you will see if you google 'archery' i.e. with the arrow on the same side as the knuckles.
