I was hoping McIlroy would win but it looks like he is imploding.
I lived in Augusta for 3.5 years when I worked for John Deere. People would rent their houses out for the week and could get $10K easy for the week, tax free. If you had a pair of tickets, you could get a heck of a lot more.
I think it is still the same, but the practice tickets were actually given away each year. You have to put your name into the pool and they randomly pick out winners. A guy I worked with got tickets twice while I was there.

pft! You can only play if a member invites you to play. The whole course is surrounded by houses, bushes, and walls.
True story: about 8 years ago, Bill Gates applied for membership but his game was not good enough so his membership was declined. He worked on his game and was granted membership about 4 years later.

I had read BG had applied and was refused but didn't realise it was because of his handicap.

He got all mad and was trying to develop his own course out in the mid west but it never happened. When you can turn down Bill Gates, you don't need no stinkin' money. The course is actually located in the old part of Augusta, not exactly the best part of town. Not the worst but definitely not the best.
The course closes down in the summer because of the heat. Gets way way too hot down there in July and August.
