Legend Of Tarzan (2016) - 4/10
Such high hopes .... dashed. What a train wreck. In it's attempts to modernize and add a huge dose of PC to the legend, the makers of this movie just killed it instead. The only high-points were visual & happened when Tarzan was shown to be beautifully doing his thing in the high reaches of the jungle. The vine swinging shots, while heavily cgi'd, were fun to finally see.
Sam Jackson's character was completely unneeded &, I don't even know why he was added. The movie would have flown a lot more smoothly if his role was removed, he just bogged every scene down he was in; it was almost embarrassing to watch. Margot Robbie, while easy on the eyes, was just terrible. She's, imo, just a horrible actress. The role of Jane was pumped up, but for no ultimate reason, she remained the girl to be rescued.
Christoph Waltz was good, but played no more than a watered down version of the bad Nazi in Inglorious Bastards, even with a copycat version of the eating scene he had in that film.
Alexander Skarsgard looked great as Tarzan and did the best he could w/ what he was given, but he wasn't given much. Tarzan the ApeMan has more or less retired when this movie starts, & John Clayton seems more into being the British Lord Of Greystoke than the Jungle Lord.
I doubt we'll see another Tarzan movie anytime soon & that sucks. I wanted this film to kick start a franchise but it was like the Director just didn't care.
I'm a HUGE Tarzan fan but doubt I'll even pick this up on Blue. Maybe I'll give it another watch on the ScyFy channel in 2 years when it hits. My 4/10 was mostly for the pure Tarzan in his element shots. The only good shots in the film.
