BY DF NEWS
A four disc DVD boxed set of the literacy based educational TV series The Electric Company will be release this February 7, 2006. Produced by Sesame Workshop, then known as Children's Television Workshop, The Electric Company aired on PBS October 1971-April 1977 (780 episodes) and featured series regulars included some known and upcoming celebrities including Rita Moreno, Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Irene Cara, Hattie Winston, Luis Avalos and Todd Graff as well as the voices of Joan Rivers, Gene Wilder, Mel Brooks and Mel Blank in a range of reoccurring live-action and animated (all sorts of animation) segments. With humor, The Electric Company was designed as the place for kids who had graduated from the lessons of Sesame Street. The DVD set includes 24 episodes and is targeted to kids of the 1970s, including: The Adventures of Letterman; The Six Dollar and Thirty Nine Cent Man; Easy Reader; The Director; Slow Reader; Old Soft Shoe; Fargo North Decoder, Road Runner/Wile E. Coyote cartoon segments, then new, produced by Chuck Jones (underlining reading skills); Jennifer of the Jungle; Clayton (claymation); Vi's Diner; Monolith (songs by Richard Strauss); A Very Short Book; and Five Seconds among others.

Morgan Freeman wasn't Spider-Man, though I think I recall him being in a skit or two. And he was Easy Reader. But the guy in the Spidey suit was Danny Segren, a muppeteer for Jim Henson (he was Sweetums, among other roles).

The great thing about the EC Spider-Man stuff was that they spun it off into Spidey Super Stories, a comic that I used to have many of, and of which I have maybe one left. Sigh.

I am so completely excited about this DVD set. Gotta get it for my daughters--it was my favorite show when I was a kid. I used to tape this off of Noggin back when they aired them, and my girls loved it, too.

I remember him saying he was Spidey in an interview.
