Article says it will be a reboot rather than a sequel, which makes sense.

I'd like to see a sequel. It was badly marketed as the movie itself was quite enjoyable.

Still not sure if it will be a full reboot or indirect sequel.

While the CGI, particularly the Tharks, was brilliantly accomplished, the movie lacked much in terms of watchability. It was poorly scripted and not at all what I would have expected having read the entire series of books several times. It was John Carter in name only and bore very little resemblance to the actual stories that ERB wrote. Hopefully, if this new project gets a go ahead, they will pay a lot more respect to the source material. Age old argument, I now, but if you're going to make a movie based on a book or series of books, then there is an obligation the remain as true to the books as possible. Disney's John Carter lacked so much of that respect.

Despite the financial debacle that was John Carter : A Princess of Mars (inside joke), I thought the franchise could/ should have worked.
If they make a second film, be it reboot, sequel or Woola spin-off, it will get my money.

Lose the "John Carter" name in the title. No one who hasn't read the books/comics knows who the hell that is. Just call the movie series "Warlords of Mars" and you might get people interested.
And now that it's no longer Disney, maybe we move away for the family-friendly glossy look. Do Dejah Thoris right and lose some clothes.
Who ever has the rights now, I doubt the next movie will cost more that $100M. It's still a big gamble.

The ERB estate hinted at working (ironically) with WB's as they are the Studio currently working with the Tarzan license right now.

Disney should lose the rights. They did a miserable job of marketing John Carter. I am definetly down for more Barsoom movies though. I liked John Carter but would like to see a darker more adult take on the stories. John Carter was a bit too watered down than what was in the book series.
