Not that I would expect this to happen, and the story as a whole is pretty derivative, but I've always thought that certain elements of Dark Empire would look pretty cool in a later SW movie, especially the older Luke using the force to take out an AT-AT.

Joss Whedon would be an ideal choice considering his experience dealing with ensemble casts and quality Sci-Fi with the likes of Firefly/Serenity.

Letting Spielberg have a crack might prove interesting. I know he has stated in the past he's always wanted to Direct a SW pic. I think it would be cool to honor his friend with a solid Star Wars film.

The Wachowski's would be pretty cool too. They've certainly got the visual flair and a penchant for storytelling on an epic scale.

After having some time to think about it I think these Directors would do a fine job. Especially the first two.

J. Michael Straczynski

Neill Blomkamp

Duncan Jones

Let Spielberg have a go.
He practically begged to direct at least one of the prequels and I think he would do a good job and he's a great director. No question about that.
Also a safe route to go- and let's be honest this movie needs to be safe in some ways.. Disney will be under the magnifying glass with their maiden voyage with the Star Wars franchise simply because people won't assume it will suck since GL out of the way
This will essentially be the first real go at a sw film since ROTJ

They just need to find a good director who cares about Star Wars. Which is more difficult than it sounds as getting picked will be like winning the lottery and almost every director not already successful will want the job.

Need to be better than good and safe for this. Need passion for Star Wars. If Len Wiseman's movies weren't so lacking in energy most of the time, I would suggest him. The guy supposedly collects Star Wars props. They need to find someone like a Joss Whedon type who gets it.
