I think that was a "proof of concept" cgi cinematic to sell the studio on investing in a feature film. Could also be the reason behind why the trailer was "leaked".

Agreed. I personally think the "leak" was to gauge the fans interest and see how much twitter and Facebook trending it got.

The guys deserves it after how devoted he has been to doing it. Also his turn as DP in Origins and stint as GL could lend themselves to some great "4th wall" moments.
