This is why the Oscars are so boring and why their ratings keep dropping.... They keep nominating movies most people have never seen or heard of....
Trying to think but has their been a movie that has made over a billion dollars nominated for an Oscar (other then technical awards?) you would think if a movie makes well over a billion dollars it most be really liked by the general viewing audience but no they nominate movies that barely make $20 million....

Avatar, Titanic, and Lord of the Rings all 3 times.

I meant to say Sci-Fi or Comedy... which I agree Avatar and Return of the King qualified... still that's not many... I think if a movie makes over a billion it should be automatically nominated for best picture

isn't that the problem he's talking about though? that the Hollywood D-bags are so far up their own cracks these days that they actively campaign against movies people actually like for borderline activist crap?
my favorite part of the evening was the obligatory "they eat their own" moment of Emma Stone announcing the best directors as "4 men and Greta" only to be attacked because some of the men aren't white so she should've given them credit for being as such, cause ya know ---- white men!

It's a "problem" only if you think popularity or money = quality. Most of the movies that make a lot of money are awful.

Most of everything is awful though, just because it’s crammed full of unsubtle messages and “meaning” doesn’t change that.

Most of the nominated movies were indeed crap, too, but that doesn't mean nominating popular movies would be an improvement.
Making a lot of money = making a lot of money, that's all.
