"The Warriors" remake
From ComingSoon.net -
Domino director Tony Scott tells MyMovies.net that his remake of Walter Hill's 1979 action film, The Warriors, will take place on the West coast.
The original, which was set in New York City, centered on the Warriors gang being wrongly accused of assassinating a rival gang leader during a truce and being forced to make their way home through hostile territory.
"I see it as 'Kingdom Of Heaven' meets 'The Warriors' because with these gangs, instead of having twenty or thirty guys, I'm going to have three thousand, five thousand guys in the LA river beds and it's going to look like LA during the riots," Scott told the site. He added, "I love the original movie, that's why I'm in doing this but I'm not going to copy the original".
Scott expects to start working on the Paramount and MTV Films project in 2006.
I loved the original, even bought the newly released directors cut on DVD. Should be interesting how an updated version will "pla-ee-yay".

If it is the film I am thinking of, the remake should be good.

sorta - warriors was a great 80s underground film - a gang was wrongly accused of killing someone ( i think it was killing) and the rest of the film they try getting away from various "themed" gangs - like the baseball gang and the all girl gang etc.....and then the guy (also was in the crow-played t-bird, and commando played sully) at the end with the bottles "warriors, come out and play-e-yay"

Original was to take back Coney Island too. The release of the director's cut just came out and it's sweet. I dunno about a remake though. And switching the coasts? Eh I guess it could be kewl taking place during something like LA riots but still. Just try to make something else altogether and don't touch the Warriors!

Somethings just shouldn't be touched/redone......
"Somethings are never as good as the first time"-Sade
This film was dark, gritty and AWESOME!!!!!!
It really caputred that NYC at night feel. Maybe the 'low budget-ness' helped
that. This remake is going to have car chases,explosions....blah,blah,blah....
NO west coast gang is gonna wear any kind of themed-costume. The baseball
gang,with painted faces.
Oh,well..........

Why don't they just remake everything? The thing about the original movie is that there was a mixture of the surreal with the grittiness -- I think at the time that said it was based a little on the Odyssey (i.e. the cyclops, sirens, etc.) Given the violence of gangs today, and the countless kids and innocent bystanders that are lost to it every year, this isn't something that should be glorified. The remake will be glossy with hip-hop music (gotta sell that soundtrack) pimped up tricked out cars and hot chicks. I remember when the Warriors came out in the 70s, there were kids shooting each other outside of movie theaters. Can you imagine what it would be like if this one caught on?

The furies, because everyone remembers them. The turnball ACs were the baldies right? What were the girls called? I have to watch this on DVD sometime.
