Anybody reading Straczynski's FF?

Hi Gang,

Anybody reading Straczynski's FF? I just picked up the first 4 issues (527-530) of his run on the title. I took a shot as I thought JMS would do a much better job on FF than he did on Spidey. Alas, so far, that doesn't seem to be the case...

The storyline seems to be taking forever to get anywhere and, after 4 snail-paced and actionless issues, I simply stopped caring. While I do applaud JMS's intention to bring new characters to the title, I don't believe he has to futz around with the origin to do so.

Here's the gist: JMS turned the cosmic rays into some sort of communication device used by this exiled alien who hoped to ride the thoughts of the universe in search of others who sought out the truths of existence so he could have others to chat with about things that would bore any sane person to death. ...Yes, you read that correctly. Doesn't that just sound spinetingingly fascinating? This alien and the Surfer should have a whining contest about the unfairness of the universe.

Did anyone pick up any issues 531 and up? Where is this story going?

I so long for the days when the FF was actually fun to read. The Waid run was all right. The Byrne run was the last amazing run on the book since the Lee/Kirby days.

Final rating: Unless you're the type that enjoys contemplating your insignificance in matters cosmic, wait for the next writing team.

P.S. We also learn that since the FF came to be, the Thing never really looked over a single of his tax returns. Apparently, he (unknowingly) has been getting a 25% cut of all FF patents. He's a billionnaire.

Sounds stupid, and lame.

Why do people feel the need to re-tell origin stories?

Because when they are done right, they can be gold. Two of the best I can recall were Swamp Thing by Alan Moore and a storyline involving Star Sapphire also in the 80's.

The issue I was referring to was Green Lantern #192 from September 1985. I should have remembered Steve Englehart was the writer. He did a lot of good stuff back then. If you find it and read it, PM me what you thought.

It's been an OK run so far IMO but the child-welfare subplot just irks the hell out of me though.

I agree. The reason for that subplot is not coming across as realistic. With the rational they are using, any kid from the less desirable sections of an inner city could be taken away from their parents for raising them in an unsafe environment. If they have a loving, nurturing household, nothing else really matters.

SirConor
I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

I'm finding JMS's run so far to be incredibly dull too. I'm hoping when this "relic" hits the earth and Thor possibly returns it'll get far more interesting... right now I am wondering why I continue to pay the three bucks a month when I can nap for free.
