The Mummy's Shroud (1967) 7/10 - A late entry by Hammer Studios using The Mummy as monster. This time, the mummy in the film has no connection whatsoever to Hammer's earlier uses of the character. The mummy's Egyptian back story is really explored in this one, almost for too long, taking up the 1st 5th of the movie. We then settle on in to the actual curse imposed upon the few who opened his tomb. When the mummy finally does exact revenge, I found it exceptionally brutal & different from his/it's usual strangulation methods. He dumps acid on one guy & then sets him on fire, another he chucks through a 3rd story window & we watch the body smash into a cement water though semi snapping in two. The usual Hammer beauty is strung along for eye candy. Not bad at all.
House of Dracula (1945) 4/10 - IMO, the worst Universal Monster Film starring the usual cadre of creatures. Dracula comes to a mad scientist's German castle/hospital to actually try & get cured from his affliction. The Wolfman follows for the same reason & Frankenstein's monster just happens to be found on the hospital grounds. The 3 never really fight. Each one's story is self-contained & quite boring. Dracula dies in such a ridiculous manner, that it was like he never had a plan after giving in to his desires & biting a nurse. It's just not a very good movie.
