Chrome Paint?

Hi Guys,

I've got a paint question. I've got this paint that when spray painted on, it comes out silver/mirror/chrome. It looks really nice. However, I find that after it is dried, if I rub on the head, the silver/mirror/chrome effect becomes very dull. Am I doing something wrong? Does anyone have chrome prepaints? When you rub on them, I'm sure you dont get the same thing. Is it the paint I am using or is it the fact that you have to put something on top of it as well?

Please help!

Hey Gannon,

What kind of paint is it (brand name)? Is it the rattle can stuff or something you're spraying through an airbrush?

Based on what you've said has happened, it sounds like a spray paint rattle can chrome paint. That stuff never works. Too thick..and takes forever and a day to cure.

Hi Danno! Thanks for the reply! Yes, it is a rattle can but it is in a foreign language (found it in my dad's garage) so dont know the branding. Is there a brand that you can spray paint on that doesn't disappear?

Hey Gannon,

I would recommend trying Alclad Chrome paint. This paint is the closet paint I have found that resembles a chrome type finish:

http://www.alclad2.com/

Here I used it on the head of this Colossus bust to give to an idea of the finish you can achieve:

Inn using Alclad, I recommend that you start by basecoating the piece in the Alclad Gloss Black basecoat. Let it set up for 24 hours and lightly mist on the Alclad Chrome to build up your metallic finish. Again, let it dry for 24 hours before handling and you have a solid hard finish chrome like paint that will not dull when you handle it. I hope this helps a little.

Hey Sniper,

The cost of Alclad is about $8.00 per bottle and they have alot of metallic finishes to choose from.

I picked it up from Greenfield News and Hobby, but I know it is easy to find from on-line hobby shops. It will make for a great base paint on your Iron man statues!

LOL!

Here is Alclad's site:
http://www.alclad2.com/

If you go to the Ordering page, there is a small list of on-line retailers to choose from and it looks like you can order from them directly.
