Just watched for the second time Memories of Murder and what a masterpiece, I have no words to describe it...it was even better the second time! The cast, the direction, the investigation, everything is on point.
The score is also incredible!
Everybody is talking about Parasite (it's an excellent movie, no doubt of that) but everybody should watch this movie from Bong Joon Ho, his first masterpiece!
10/10

Jo Jo Rabbit - 7/10
I considered giving this an even lower score but the kid-star of the film was simply fabulous. My main issue with this is that I have a hard time getting past using the horrific plight of the Jews during WWII as the backdrop for a comedy. Hitler can never be funny to me, no matter how he is portrayed. Of course, this does not mean films of this nature should not be made. I'm just saying I can't help but personalize things when it comes to this era which makes it a greater challenge for me to totally get into it like I might for a different comedy like Beverly Hills Cop or When Harry Met Sally or the Mask or It's a Mad Mad Mad Mad world.

I’d agree if it was really supposed to be Hitler, but it’s merely a little boy’s imaginary friend version of Hitler.
One of my favorite films of the year, for both me and my family.

I get all that, of course. Perhaps the full extent of comedic tone gets lost on me because I'm Jewish and I know of so many people who lost loved ones in the most heinous fashion during the Holocaust. That being said, I can certainly see how a film like this could be enjoyed by others. Good for them.
I still gave this 7/10 despite my personal issues with it.
On a side note, I would not display a poster on my wall with the swastika on it, even it's a stunning Alex Ross painting of Captain America fighting nazis. While some people may dismiss the deeper meaning the imagery might hold for me, I can't, as it would take my mind "there", if that makes any sense, as it would many of the people I know. In the end, there are lots of other things I can display on my wall. In any event, glad to hear you and your family enjoyed the film!
