There is a world of figure art outside of what you know - where people pay even more than $2K - $3K for an original figure....by original, I mean, not a derivative piece from an existing I.P.
But I can understand your point as well - simply put, there's a whole market of people who want derivative figures - my point, was not that this practice should stop - but that it would be interesting if there were companies that could find the scope to continue to serve that side of the market - while showcasing their own creative and original concepts.
For the record, JND are doing exactly this for the 1/6 scale product lines - and by all acounts, seem to be doing relatively well in both the derivatives and orginal concept market - so, it's possible.....risky, maybe, but possible.
