That said, it's still a great piece.

My Bad. Didn't know about that.

Never heard before that the factory forgot to put the final wash over the base.

I think it's just speculation based on the observation that it could benefit greatly from a wash to add some contrast. It's more than that though. The skulls are grey instead of bone colored, no black paint in the eye sockets, "roots" are not as detailed, etc.

It's unfortunate the base looks quite bland in color when compared to the prototype. Clearly something was missed at the factory during production. Ideally XM should have done a recall on these before they got into collectors hands but at this stage I don't see them stepping in and doing anything about it.
Even with this issue, I am still excited to get mine unboxed and set up. It's still looks to be a stunning piece from all accounts.

You should be! It is stunning! Despite my bit of disappointment about the base I wouldn't send it back even if that were a choice.

Has anyone demanded some type of compensation from XM to account for the base issues everyone is talking about?
I wouldn't want to return it like most of you, but it would seem a credit of some sort would be in order due to the oversight.

I'm talking to them on Facebook publicly. Either fix it or full refund.
