Setting the Standard in Comics!!

Long time lurker, first time poster.

Started collecting comic art, mainly commissions a couple years ago, focusing on those old GoldenAge characters who fell into the public domain.

Or, as my CAF page (http://www.comicartfans.com/GalleryD...asp?GCat=56510) says:
"The composition of vast books is a laborious .. experience. To go on for five hundred pages developing an idea whose perfect oral exposition is possible in a few minutes. A better course of procedure is to pretend that these books already exist, and then to offer a resume, a commentary."
-- Author Jorge Luis Borges

Or, What If "Standard Comics" published comics full of long forgotten superheroes, alongside real world DC and Marvel throughout the Golden-Silver-Bronze-Modern Ages?

Here's the latest one:

And one of the earliest:

Follow the links in the descriptions to see how they tie together.

The quickest way to double your money is to fold it in half and put it back in your pocket.

Roy, I have been following you around CAF too. Your themes and commissioned pieces are awesome. I swear you must have Mitch Ballard on retainer. Hard to sneak a commission from him in. Great stuff man!

Thanks, Damon.

For Damon's love of the obscure ...

This is my own "Project Rooftop: Retrofix" type of thing, an update of Better/Standard/Nedor's Grim Reaper. I now tend to think of these PD characters like "there but for the grace of god goes Superman or Batman or Captain America". Sure, a lot of the guys disappeared because there wasn't much to them, but if they'd had the chance to continue and develop through the 50s-60s-etc, they might be on kids' knapsacks today, along with Hulk and Iron Man, etc.

Well, that's the theory anyway.

I gave artist Mitch Ballard some (very) rough sketches and he went above and beyond to deliver this great Who's Who/OHOTMU type drawing.

It is in part because of the excellent work that Mitch Ballard has done for you that I've decided to commission him to do something for me. Incidentally, the work that he and you have done on public domain characters is outstanding.
