There have been a lot of great explanations as to who Thomas Wayne Jr. was and why it makes sense considering his role in the DC Universe prior to the New 52, but the long-lost-brother introduction just feels too "been there/done that" and is an easy way out. To me everything is been there done that these days
did "The cult" not have a secret society\Court of Owls like feeling. Batman trapped\drugged underground and broken mentally physically.
To me hes doing the brother aspect better than most have, I also hope it is a hoax but the backup story suggests otherwise.
Even if its not a hoax it doesn't negate the quality of the arc, the back story with Martha and the school funding is ten times better developed than Thomas Elliot.
I don't think its a way out of anything to me its silly because its unnecessary. Even without the brother aspect his motives can still exist as a member of the court. He poisoned the owls, survived the fight and setup Bruce all to be the head of the court, it works even if it had nothing to do with them being brothers.
A way out (cop out) to me is: making sense of all Hush's nonsensical appearances by bringing back people from the dead. Thats clear way out of a hole.
This, this is just unnecessary IMO. Not nearly as bad.
