Star Wars by John Cassaday - Hi, Comic Art. It's been a while.

The moment it was announced Marvel was doing a Star Wars comic with John Cassaday I knew I would have to try and get at least one original art piece from the run. Unfortunately I had been out of the art game for a while and even if I had been in the game I wasn't all that savvy with acquiring OA. I was mainly a convention and commission type of collector back then. So when the issues started coming out I started looking to see if pages were available. Never really saw anything pop up for while. Not saying they never became available, just that I never saw them. When I finally did see some pages show up it was slim pickings and really expensive. I just figured either John was keeping the art or the super savvy collectors snatched them all up. So I pretty much threw in the towel.

Fast forward to MONSTER's 'If you could only keep 5 pieces' thread (basically 2 years later). Seeing people's top 5 must have pieces in that thread sparked the art collector fire in me once more. Some incredible art just from member's of this forum alone. Out of curiosity I started randomly browsing classifieds and dealer sites for my favorite artists. Hadn't checked out Moy's site in a while. Why not? Well there it was. A whole mess of Cassaday Star Wars stuff. Maybe it's the price tags. Maybe they were relatively recent additions. I don't know, I don't care. I could finally add what I consider to be a grail in my collection. Star Wars original art that happens to be done by someone I consider to be a legend in the business.

There were definitely more iconic images in this series. Most weren't available to begin with, but even a lot of those didn't really embody Cassaday's style as much as this page does, in my opinion. A solid Cassaday portrait with Luke in the first panel, great sense of motion in the second, some excellent foreshortening the last panel, and Cassaday's clean yet gritty detail throughout. Oh yeah, and a nice big shot of the one and only, Boba Fett. Super excited to have this.

Thanks! Agree with your comment on CAF as well. I only have a few pages, but the way one panel flows to another is an important factor when I consider purchasing a piece.

Thanks, guys. I appreciate it.

Yeah, MONSTER. My wife says "thanks...". Didn't exactly sound sincere, but I can never tell anymore. So do what I do and just assume you did good.
