To any of you other sculptors out there who sculpt with the Grey SS.I don't know what it is but when I bake a piece with this stuff part of my sculpts go brown in colour. I have been using SS for years and I have never had this happen, until recently. I usually bake pieces for an hour or more at 225F with no problem, however with this grey SS it starts to brown after only 25 mins ! I'm thinking maybe they changed the formula?? I have used different ovens and the same thing happens. Have any of you had the same problem?
I have no issue about the product as a sculpting medium, it's the brown colouring I am getting when I have been baking it.I am going to bake my next piece at a lower temperature this time and see how it goes. As I have said before I have been sculpting with SS for almost 15 years now and I have never had this issue before. This is why I am puzzled.

Is it certain parts and not others that are turning brown or the whole thing? I bake in a gas oven and at times in an electric one. The parts in the gas oven that are closer to the sides and top tend to get brown while the rest is just fine.
Also, smaller parts will tend to turn brown faster in the Grey than in the regular, but I think that's mainly due to the translucent nature of the pink stuff -- It isn't as noticeable.
I believe William Paquet posted something about baking at extremely low temperatures (like 225) for short amounts of time (like 15 minutes). Can anybody confirm this. Last time I tried baking SS it burned black using the instructions on the packaging......
yeah, i was referring to the baking too.
this is all baked. SS Firm straight from the box, no mix.
some parts baked the box way, some pieces baked the Paquette way
that browning seems really odd. Im sure it'd be obvious if it was scorched.
