Depends on the custom and depends upon the mass produced piece. I've seen crap on both ends.

I went to a general store. They wouldn't let me buy anything specifically.

Vince-Vell theorized that the reason why many of the Psylocke statues have been cracking is because the statues do not have primer. He received a Psylocke statue and stripped the paint where he saw that there wasn't any primer underneath the flesh tone paint and portraits' hair do not have primer either. It was just painted over the resin/polystone. Whichever Chinese factory did the Psylocke statues may have not put any primer which truly concerns me because I wonder if the same thing will happen to the Storm PF.

Damn, anyone know if the Vampirella PF was done in the same factory?

Doesn't look like it, since this is the only statue recently that I know of that has had paint cracking problems.

Sorry I don't know much about paint application on resin/polystone.
Resin is basically plastic and most paints dont bond well to plastic. Primer is a base coat that bonds to most surfaces and this creates a surface that paints bond to well.

Think of how people paint rooms in a house, they use a primer on sheet rock walls and then paint onto the primer. Unless you use a primer based paint that is a color and primer in one.

Same thing for cars, most cars on the road have a primer that sticks to metal and then car paint sticks to the primer.

I would guess you will see flaking on most of them, since it seems this was such a thin coat of paint its not going to bond and stay on the resin for long.

Welp, no cracks for me about 2 months later.

But I wonder if we are actually the unlucky ones. If they are all destined to crack, there may not be replacements available for us later.

Can't complain yet, but may not get a replacement in the future.

<SIGH>

Yep, when I looked at my own pics just posted... there IS a crack forming now on the left thigh.

Already emailed Sideshow.

Well, on the bright side, maybe it happened early enough for me to still get a replacement. Hope that the replacements have primer.
