W/ characters like Tarzan, Doc, Conan, The Shadow, etc..., don't you think a familiarity built with the reading of some of the books helps? Do people read Tarzan, Doc Savage, Conan novels anymore? Hope I'm wrong.
I share the same concern. The filmmakers will have to assume no prior knowledge of the characters on the part of the viewers to create hooks to bring them in. The good thing, though, is that Tarzan has greater pop culture name recognition than John Carter.

well if they do and updated version of Greystoke: The Legend of Tarzan, Lord of the Apes. then i think it will be a home run. . i think of how Rise of the planet of the apes was. imaging that movie but a Tarzan movie/trilogy with today's SPFX and CGI will be incredible. not saying that it has to be an exact replication of the Greystoke film. but something along those lines.
