The episodes have insane production value. Most triple A movies don't even look this expencive.
I can understand why fans don't like the creative decisions, but I expected nothing from this series, so I was pleasently suprised about the movie-like quality of the episodes.

I'm liking it so far, feels grittier than the movie trilogies. It has been slow, for sure, but at least the trolls and orcs have looked wicked. The one through the floor in ep 2 was creepy. I also like the casting of Galadriel thus far.

So, what's the consensus on the bearded guy the Harfoots found in the crater?
Gotta be Sauron, right?

i know lore isn't a high priority for this series, but it wouldn't make any sense for it to be Sauron since he had no clue what the hell Hobbits or the Shire were. so, him meeting them (even thousands of years before) really wouldn't work.

What in the lore says Sauron didn't know what Hobbits were?
And anyway, these are Harfoots, and not living in the Shire.

A Maiar seems likely. They could create a new character for all I know.
I'd guess Sauron would be...well, prettier to seduce others into his scheme.

Possibly, but the five wizards were not on middle earth at this time. A lot is how fast and loose the show plays with lore.

That's how he's described, IIRC, right? But he could take that form later...
