Anna - starring an exceptional young actress by the name of Taissa Farmiga and Mark Strong as a memory seeker. Interesting concept. 6/10

The Deadly Mantis (1957) 6/10 - Too bad the femme fatale was such a dud in this movie 'caue a 50's bombshell could have really spiced things up.. A pretty good giant monster unthawed from a huge artic ice-chunk flick. Per the norm, artic circle stations start showing up destroyed. Savvy scientist & pilot get to the bottom of things slowly. Gi-normous Praying Mantis makes her last stand in the Big Apple. Great shots of bug on Wash. Monument.

X-Men DoFP 8.75/10

One of the best written comic book films, not just X ones, out there.

Lots of depth of character and a well focused story given that the subject matter could have led to a mess of a narrative.

I saw Godzilla and I'd give it a 6/10. While the parts Godzilla was was in were entertaining, I really didn't care for any of the main characters which really ended up boring me to tears for 90% of the film (the other 10% was the monster fighting). I didn't pay just sit through a 2 hour movie to see 10 min of payoff gtfo. Godzilla was a radioactive pile of ---- sadly.

Edward Scissorhands (1990) - 8/10

One of my favorite Tim Burton films, it never gets old. Watching it this time around, I noticed some elements that reminded me of Wes Anderson's films: the pacing, the personalities of the various neighbors, the quirky household settings, the colors... it makes me wonder if this film influenced Anderson in any way.

Every time I hear of this movie, I'm reminded of its inclusion in It Came From Hollywood (1982), an MST3K-style documentary of cult classics from the '50s - '70s (worth a watch to get some ideas for your next movie night). The clip shows one of the giant mantis' legs emerging from a fog bank, with a town in the foreground. Cheech Marin shouts "It's the attack of the 50-foot chicken wing!"
