Alan Moore himself has said that Batman killed the Joker at the end of that story. It was initially conceived as an out of continuity one shot. Your point stands however once DC decided to absorb it into continuity in the following years.

They took part of it into continuity. The Joker's origin and Barbara getting shot.

Perhaps the sex scene was a nod to older fans of the animated show where it was hinted at them having a relationship at one point. Not defending, i really dont care either way - just offering a possible reason behind it

With two Batman aficionados at the helm, DC still had to stray from the source material? Why was it not thrilling enough to stick to the book?
This will be my first Batman animated film not purchased.

you got a source for that MM. Just curious. I have read the killing joke before but only now have heard about this "Batman killing the Joker controversy"

Not a big deal in the grand scheme of things. It just baffles my mind that producers/directors/production companies etc... feel the need to stray from source material instead of staying true to the material that provided them with a film to begin with.

Its a sore spot for me, especially when they change the demographic of characters to be politically correct or just to appease or in this case provide a gratuitous sex scene potentially demoralizing Babs.

If you wanna add new players or new scenes, then just make a damn film with that, new characters and new scenes, nothing to stray from.

Batgirl was a stronger and fuller character in this animated movie than she ever was in Killing Joke where she was just there to be victimized. I don't see the big fuss either.

Not sure why but the last 4-5 DC animated movies have been very mediocre at best. The Killing Joke was no different 6/10
