Turns out the hulk standing upright is supposed to be a woman.....erm, ok......I can't say it matches very well with the images I've seen online.
Many people hated the sequel because Joel was immediately killed by Abby and crew. Plus Abby won't stop stealing the last of the protein powder. Oh yeah, plus she's in a really nice NSFW scene. She turns all skinny at the end though, like a reverse Captain America lol.

People were disappointed when the game got leaked months before release that showed Joel (beloved character) getting killed early in the game due to his actions from the first games last chapter.

With Abby it came down to supposed feminists in the writing room, making her jacked beyond belief even though the game clearly shows why and how she got like that. To add insult to injury they force you to play half the game as her to understand her point of view. Unfortunately because Joel was so beloved and killed so early they couldn’t get past his death and connect with Abby and her friends after his death. There were game reviewers that stopped at the end of Ellie’s scenario which is funny because it ends on a cliffhanger only resolved by finishing Abby’s campaign.

Finally a lot of detractors, even those that played through it found the story manipulative. For example Ellie kills a dog late in her game and you play fetch with the same dog at the beginning of Abby’s. Most of Abby’s friends like the black chick and pregnant chick do stupid stuff that get themselves killed but makes Ellie look like the bad guy because “revenge”.

There’s a ton more I could say but we’ll be here all day. The themes present in the game like identity, cause and effect, bottling lies up and the consequences, PTSD, vengeance and redemption are excellent. It just gets drowned out because for a lot of folks it’s not the story or direction they wanted. And that’s ok.

Abby's body model was scanned in off an actual person, Colleen Fotsch. She is a swimmer and fitness competitor.

You can not like a character, but I worry this dislike mutates into some truly ugly behavior attacking people's body and questioning their gender identity.

Yep. Not going to lie, I enjoying yelling “hulk smash” at the TV every time I clotheslined a fanatic.

It's still a weird design choice. You wouldn't be lifting, swimming, and eating 5000 calories a day during an apocalypse. Probably a little HGH as well. You'd have more of a runner's physique at best.

I think the problem is the military stadium shows a steady kitchen, crops/livestock and a 24-Hour Fitness to make Abby's transformation "believable". (not saying it is) Compared to the first game's locations. Especially if you compare it to where Joel and Tess reside post apocalypse living like Dennis Leary in Demolition Man. Rat burgers and all.

I'd like to believe they chose her physique so Ellie couldn't stand a chance with her toe-to-toe. Then starved her in the end so she has a chance. When Abby's crucified, that should have been her physique the whole game because she still looked athletic. Then someone would come along and complain she has an eating disorder because we can't have nice things anymore.

I forgot about that. They had a whole gym and everything. I hope Abby shows up in the show. She's a character we love to hate.

I guess it goes to how far one can stretch disbelief.

Joel in the first game is impaled by rebar after a two story fall. He should have died, much less been able to do anything exerting himself.

If someone made a truly "realistic" game it would be pretty miserable and nearly impossible. Nathan Drake has wrist strength better than any rock climber that has ever lived, but it is fun, so we don't get bogged down.

It's artistic licence to me. Abby is driven. By hate and grief and transforms herself in that pursuit. She has to find her humanity and sees what her pursuit cost her and how it is a feedback loop of destruction.

I get people don't like things, there's little discussion there. How they voice that concerns me at times. Going after people or finding your dislike makes you feel such negative emotions? May be best to move on and focus on what does bring you joy.

Really good post and points Augen.

As for the statues I think Abby looks great. Ellie I feel is lacking a little. The presence and wow factor is not as strong.
