I think translucent with an under skeleton would be great, but the pic does not look like that at all, no translucent resin there atm. Though they are yet to show off the rest of it so they might have some translucent resin (or even multiple versions) but I wouldn't bet on it.

This looks a lot more complicated than the P1 Aliens, I feel like it has to be decals even if they did it. It also looks like it's could be separate pieces, if so that would make it a lot easier to apply them.
Since they showed this they must have some plan to tackle it and like you said painting that just doesn't seem like something a factory can do with just paint, and they have done heavy decal blended pieces with their g1 transformers so unless they got some new process up their sleeve it seems like that for sure.
