Just finished the Hunger Games. It was OK but I don't see the tremendous hype it has gotten.

Hodgson was a big influence on HP Lovecraft, and this is his most popular work. Vertigo released an impressive graphic novel adaptation of it in 2000 with art by Richard Corben.

I downloaded it as a series of free podcasts from iTunes, and thank goodness for that. The story was very unfocused and drawn-out, and the graphic novel departed from it substantially (which made it much better, actually).
I'm now reading Gulliver of Mars (1905), by Edwin L. Arnold, which is a likely inspiration for ERB's Barsoom novels.

I'm reading this piece of crap book by Deborah Harkness called 'A Discovery of Witches' it's like an adult version of Twilight apparently.
Basically one of my best friends was reading this because she was told it was good, and I mocked her relentlessly for it. She despised every second of it.
Then she found out it was a trilogy, so I said she had to read the second one. She promised to do it if I read the first, so I'm putting myself through literary hell to make her read the second book.
It's one of the worst books I've ever read...

Deadhouse Gates - Book 2 of the Malazan Book of the Fallen series by Steven Erickson. This is a great fantasy series but not an easy read.

The Wolf Gift by Anne Rice. Almost finished with the book. Looks like Anne is taking a stab at the werewolf mythology.
