After I posted to last night, I got to thinking more about the movie, and there were several scenes of people getting quickly drowned after impact and the ship crew ended up sealing off sections to slow the sinking. I've seen the ship's layout before in shows and in the movie, but it's been a long time. I do remember the movie made a big point to show that the engine room was sealed off, and that the coach passengers (i.e. poorer/lower class people) were kept from coming topside because the captain and crew knew they didn't have nearly enough rescue boats for everyone to evacuate.

Later tonight, I'll see if I can find a graphic showing what they believed happened as the ship sunk.

Hey Nuff, I'm coming up empty trying to find out if it's known who absolutely died first, but I did find some interesting facts.

RATIO of SURVIVORS
..........Women & Children......Men........Total
First Class........94%.............31% .......60%
Second Class....81%.............10%........44%
Third Class.......47%.............14%........25%
Crew...............87%.............22%........24%

Cost of the Titanic (in 1912): $7,500,000
Cost to build Titanic today: over $400,000,000

Cost of a ticket (one way)
* First Class (parlor suite) £870/$4,350 ($69,600 today)
* First Class (berth) £30/$150 ($2400 today)
* Second Class £12/$60 ($960 today)
* Third Class £3 to £8/$40 ($172 to $640 today)

Also, I found some cool info on the mail workers:
http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/new...cle1615078.ece
http://www.titanic-titanic.com/titan...l_clerks.shtml
It seems these brave men worked for hours trying to save the mail, but none of them survived.
