A suggestion. paint the rod red where it around the cape and white where its under the cape to match the wall. From a distance it should break up the rod visually.

Hulksmash na I wish I painted it myself lol... Got it done.. Beautiful statue dude.. It's massive.. One of my fav so far... Btw a hulk is coming very very soon and his also huge... 27" tall take a guess lol
