I'm trying to figure out what to do with my ceiling, when the time comes. I like the rustic look of leaving it exposed. Maybe painted black or something to make it look like a loft.
Not a bad idea

thanks very much guys, i appreciate the kind words. for a while before and even after this was set up i dont think i was focused enough. now that its starting to take shape im really able to fine tune the display space. some displays still are not where i want them but next year should be able to get closer to the vision

thanks brother, MOTU will be a major focus in the new room coming next year im pretty excited about it. that bale batman is a pretty underrated piece, TDK costume has been done to death at this point but i still feel its one of the best representations of it and the only statue of it in 1/4 scale. and the harbottle sculpt on the portrait (what little there is) is excellent

thanks man! yeah the brawlers are big boys, clayface was one of the first custom statues i ordered and actually influenced the way i was going to build these shelves

i debated this for a while, i spoke to the contractor when i was doing renovations but we landed on leaving it as is because the color of the wood is actually pretty nice. if it was standard new construction lumber i would have had to paint or stain everything. i think the warm wood color offers a good contrast against the cool greys. i was really inspired by some art galleries and decided to really lean into that and embrace the industrial motif of this space. i think the ceiling is around ~9' tall if you dont count the rafters

thanks again for the kind words everyone!

last weekend i went to C2E2 in chicago and had a blast. last year was my first con and got to meet a couple artists whos work i really enjoy, Daniel Warren Johnson and Matthew Allison. at the time i was actually working on statue projects of characters they created. after meeting them i thought it would be cool to make them copies to give to them at this years show. the timing was perfect, both projects were at a point i could mold and cast copies of parts so thats where these came from. busts of Cobrasun from Johnsons "Do a Powerbomb!" and Cankor from Allisons "CANKOR"

i was able to meet up with DWJ at the show, it was honestly one of the coolest experiences of my life. he was genuinely thrilled with the bust and to have someone whos work i admire so much that excited about this thing i made - that cant be matched. he even signed the base for my full statue, such an awesome dude. unfortunately Matthew was not able to attend but i was able to drop the bust off with one of his friends but i dont think hes had a chance to get it to him yet

a week before the show i found out Eric Powell was also attending, another artist whos character im making a statue of. a little late for me to try to make a bust but i made a mold of the portrait and cast a couple copies to make magnets, went with grey scale and faux bronze. so cool to shake his hand and get to thank him for bringing the goon to life

last big meeting was Cal Dodd aka the voice of wolverine in the original animated series and now xmen 97. super awesome guy, got a signed print and a few pictures with my dad. so crazy i got to shake the hand of the guy who made me a wolverine fanboy

last part of the update are a couple projects ready for paint from this years sculpting season

first is a donatello comiquette converted to a leonardo. i tried to change as many things as i could without complicating things too much, side by side you can start to see the differences now its a "variant" of sorts. i added some additional height to the base to help the look of the final display

lastly is my plastic cell project, the wrestler sting. plastic cell is a company that sells small statues in a caricature style but also blanks that can be customized. been following them for a while now and love their style, i chose my favorite wrestler as my first attempt - should be a little more recognizable after paint i hope
