I am referring to sci-fi, fantasy and super hero films. Most people I talk with don't go to the movies that much. So there is a lot of competition to draw the genral audience.
I'm not sure Marvel has a proven game plan as they are doing something different in introducing new properties with lesser known characters like Guardians and Antman. Hard to say how these will go. The sequels will most likely do well riding on the success of their previous films and the Avengers.

Their game plan is that everything is connected. Even though the GofG are lesser known, they have done a good job on weaving everything together so that the viewer already has some amount of vested interest in the movie just to see how the big picture continues to move forward.

Can't wait to see the movie version of her costume and powers though.
I'm happy another lady was added to the cast. I would have liked Ms Marvel as another option too.
