Cool

Chris! Be careful about posting so many test threads. You will P.O. the mod gods and force them to delte everything!

Nah, I think it's good to post test shots here. This way you can hopefully talk with someone who can assist with settings and such to help.

Hi Fireburns,

Very cool, but I think your shots are coming out a bit over exposed. Even in the low light shots, the image seems to get washed out (I have this problem from time to time and I get extremely frustrated, especially with dark back drops) You may want to try the same shot but with a lighter back drop to pull things into focus better for you.

Cool

I meant that Chris started three different threads with the same pics and called them all test pics. That may set of you or other mods.

Nah...I don't care about that stuff. LOL!
The only time is when people start complaining and
I will merge the threads. But if someone is looking for help/feedback - is that what this thread is?) and another thread just to show some goodies, I think it's all good, no?

actually, this is the only one with all sentinel shots. I was trying to go for some extreme shadows and what not, however, my camera seems to get really grainy in low light situations. I'm using a Sony Cyber-Shot.

shots 1 & 2
I was going for real dramatic lighting. Something that says "Holy S**T! The Sentinels are here!"

shots 3, 4 & 6
I wanted to do fairly commercial shots showing the figure and how great the detailing is on it.

shot 5
I went back for more of an extreme feel. Kind of hiding/obscuring all of the details with shadow so the veiwer is adjusting their gaze, trying to see a little more detail than what is offered.

shot 7
I wanted to go back to the traditional commercial pose, however, emphasize the size and scale of the Sentinel. These things are huge, and with the reflections I wanted to try to emphasize that.

what model cyber shot?

does it have a manual mode?

can you adjust the ISO?

do you have a tripod?

If your camera does not have a manual mode you will have a tough time achieving specific effects with you pictures. You may be able to change the metering mode (the way the camera evaluates the highlight and shadows in the picture to determine the exposure).

Adjusting the ISO will effect the amount of grain in the pictures. From what you describe, it seems your camera is automatically adjusting the ISO depending on light conditions. A low ISO (i.e. 200) produces less grain but is less sensitive to light. A a high ISO (i.e. 1600) will produce much more grain but is more sensitive to light.

A tripod is absolutely necessary for long exposures.

I like the last picture of Sentinel. Even thought the highlights are blown out the glowy effect is pretty cool. Don't be afraid to crop in tight as well. Picture #2 with the same exact lighting may have more impact if you could not see the highlighted line where the shoulder ends. Since you can't see the base anyway, crop all the way in and focus on the face. It's the focal point anyway.

Have fun, rest up, heal and don't eat too many of those pills
