Cool first post, first sculpts (sorta)

hello, everyone! I am an artist, but i'm VERY new to sculpting, i live in Ohio, USA, and i like video games, comics, manga, and anime.

so my story is, My wife and I decided that we were playing video games too much, and that it was time for us to explore new hobbies.

I remembered how much I enjoyed working with clay way back in high school, so I went out and bought myself a basic set of tools and some cheap, generic modeling clay. after several pathetic attempts on my own, i found This Tutorial
and managed to sculpt a few rough faces:

here they are next to the sketch they were supposed to resemble:

and a close up:

after this, i decided that the cheap clay i got was too messy, it also has a pretty nasty odor, so i went out and got some better modeling clay and made a few more faces, will post pics soon.

in the mean time, i'll gladly accept any advice offered!

thanks

First off welcome to the forum!

And second, that wasn't a very good tutorial, it does give you some info but not sufficient.
His body armature part was okay but the facial tutorial is lacking details and eventhough people have their approch, you don't usually staret a head that way.

What I would say is even anime is only a distortion of real anatomy so go ahead and study some real human antomy before you proceed to any anime sculpt.

Hey Darkwulf!

I'm glad my tutorials helped. I'm brewing some new tutorials and probably will be better than the last one.
Cheers!

thanks for the warm welcome!

Avenger: I live in the south-western part of ohio, near the Dayton area.

Freaky-MZ: yes thank you! the tut helped a lot, my first attempts on my own were a joke.

riderV3: I agree about the anatomy, i have some anatomy study acquired from my 2-d work, but i'm quickly learning that 3-d is a completely different issue. i will keep this in mind.

anyhoo, i got my new pic uploaded with the new clay i bought. at first i thought this clay was a little too hard, but the more i worked with it, the more i liked it.

... and it doesn't stink like the other stuff!

just a few more faces:

i really like how the one on the left came out, but i don't plan on going any further until i can sculpt a good face, after that, i'm going to take on hands!

thanks again for all the kind words
